Generate AI Policy
Generative AI Policy
1. Scope and Applicability
This policy governs the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of manuscripts submitted to JIEBP.
· It applies only to the writing process and does not directly regulate the use of AI for data analysis, coding, or research insights, which must still be reported transparently and remain subject to verification.
2. Permitted Uses
· Generative AI tools may be used solely to improve readability, grammar, or language clarity.
· AI tools must be applied under human supervision, with authors carefully reviewing and editing all output.
· Authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the final manuscript.
3. Prohibited Uses
· AI tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors, as authorship requires human intellectual responsibility.
· Authors must not rely on AI to create the core intellectual content of the paper (e.g., arguments, interpretations, or original analysis).
· Authors must not upload confidential or sensitive data (such as interview transcripts, unpublished manuscripts, or proprietary datasets) to AI platforms that could compromise privacy or intellectual property.
4. Disclosure Requirement
Authors must disclose any use of generative AI tools in the writing process. This disclosure must appear in a separate section at the end of the manuscript, before the references.
Required Section Title: Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process
Example Statement:
During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [REASON]. After using this tool or service, the author(s) thoroughly reviewed and edited the content and take full responsibility for the final version of the manuscript.
· This declaration is not required for basic tools such as grammar or spelling checkers or reference managers.
· If no generative AI tools were used, no statement is necessary.
5. Editorial and Review Process
· Editors and reviewers are prohibited from using generative AI or AI-assisted tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to evaluate or make decisions on manuscripts.
· JIEBP may explore compliant AI tools for internal editorial workflows in the future, but their use remains restricted until formally adopted.
6. Ethical Standards and Consequences
· JIEBP follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.
· Failure to disclose AI use or misuse of AI tools will be considered a breach of publication ethics and may result in:
1. Rejection of the manuscript during peer review,
2. Retraction or correction of the article after publication, and/or
3. Notification of the author’s institution when appropriate.
